According to Julio
Nudler writing in Todo Tango.com, Blasquez created a truly new tango
song, although not on vanguard's molds, with her rare ability to
combine notes and words. With a new thematic and an updated language
she hit in an ample public, not necessarily tanguero. The
traditionalists received her coldly, although without the
aggressiveness they saved for other proposals of the kind. She was frequently called "the Discepolo with skirts", but that comparison with Enrique Santos Discepolo is really excessive. Although Blázquez usually was critical, incisive and skeptical, her verses do not have - except in rare occasions- the depth, the wealth of images nor the poetry of those of Discepolo. Within the irregular quality of her compositions, she falls at times in an excessive and rhetorical exaltation of Buenos Aires, that overlooks the deteriorated quality of life in that great large city of disordered growth, polluted and in some sectors chaotic. Another despicable characteristic of her composition is the hollow nationalism that at times she professes. An example of it can be found in the tango "CONVENCERNOS", that she wrote with Chico Novarro in 1976, when Argentina began to undergo the bloodier military dictatorship of its history. |

To convince ourselves that we are capable
that we have what it takes and class to spare to decide ourselves in our land and to bet at more and never at less To convince ourselves, not to be skeptics, that wins and convinces the one who is convinced not to feel a false shame for what is ours and to learn the flavor of what is ours. And to be at least once, ourselves without that tint of somebody else's color to recover the identity, to stand up on our feet to grow until the immaturity is covered and to be at least once ourselves, so much us, so ourselves, as it must be... To convince ourselves, one day really that all the good things don't come from outside that we have style and a way and there is a need to play with all we got... To convince ourselves, with strength and courage that it is time and the hour to use our suit to be ourselves forever and by force of being to convince ourselves and thus to convince. And to be at least once, ourselves without that tint of somebody else's color to recover the identity, to stand up on our feet to grow until the immaturity is covered and to be at least once ourselves, so much us, so ourselves, as it must be... And you too, and you too stay with us and you too, and you too stay with us not with others, with us, as it must be... |
